Jean-Christophe Ballot is also a former guest artist at France's Villa Medicis in Rome. All of his work is guided by the concept of space. He has photographed many cities, industrial locations, the ports of Casablanca and Surabaya, an island in the Seine that was home to a Renault factory, flooding on the Loire River, Mount Athos, temples in Asia and the Louvre Museum, as well as what he calls "espaces limites" such as the nomadic architecture in the Sahel or troglodytic architecture in Cappadocia.
In addition to presenting work at exhibitions in France and abroad, Jean-Christophe Ballot has made documentaries and published many books.
His photographs figure among many public collections in France and the United States.
